Many people are confused by the multitude of abbreviations and acronyms out there when searching in the financial industry. DTI in particular is often very difficult for consumers to grasp. It is often misinterpreted as the ratio between how much debt you have and how much credit you have. This is not true. DTI is the Debt-To-Income Ratio, or how much fixed debt you have vs how much money you make. Banks look at this ratio to help determine how much more debt they feel a borrower can handle. Typically, banks like to see your DTI around 30%.
